Hanover, September 15, 2017.
Continental today announced a voluntary tyre exchange programme covering 4,260 PremiumContact™ 6 tyres in 245/45 R18 Y XL. Due to the use of a not specified material combination, the tyres may develop an uneven shape in the tread area. This could potentially result in tyre-vehicle contact, a reduced handling performance and a limited high speed capability. To date, Continental has not received any reports of accidents or injuries in connection with this condition. The exchange programme is being initiated proactively to avoid any potential risk to vehicle drivers and other road-users. The affected tyres were sold to customers in Europe, Turkey and Russia and solely within the replacement business.
The affected Continental tyre can be identified as follows:
Article description | DOT serial numbers |
PremiumContact™ 6 245/45 R18 Y XL | DOT 6G8U D6R9 5016 DOT 6G8U D6R9 1617 |
The last four digits of the DOT serial numbers indicate the production period (week/year). Affected tyres will be replaced free of charge. No other tyre sizes, production periods or product lines are affected.
Continental began notifying the respective national authorities on September 14, 2017 and is in contact with its tyre dealers to organise and implement this voluntary exchange programme. Anyone seeking more information, including instructions for identifying affected tyres and local contact partner, are invited to visit Continental’s respective website www.continental-tires.com/exchange.
